causes of activism movement
So, what directly caused or inflamed to protest against its government and its country? There are few but crucial factors that devoted to these movements. However, the most important reason that boosted protests is amnesty bill that pardoned officials who committed wrongdoings before.
Amnesty bill was passed by Pheu Thai party, which is dominated House of Representatives, on November 1st 2013. Amnesty bill especially forgave Thaksin , who was overthrown by his faults during his term as prime minister of Thailand. This was happened because his sister Yingluck was prime minister of Thailand. This bill began to face strong opposition from democrat party, which was led by Suthep. Democracy party claimed that it is totally unfair and just giving “indulgence” to Thaksin.
On November 25th 2013, led by Suthep and democrat party, protestors seized the ministry of finance, the budget bureau, the ministry of foreign affairs and the public relations department. Their seizure and protests were very peaceful; there weren’t any violence and fights between protesters and police. However, it did not last for long time.
In the night of December 1st 2013, anti-government protestors or students in Ramkhampaeng University and Red-shirt government supporters ran into each other. Violence was occurred, and because of fights between those two parties of people, there were few gunshots by police that turned peaceful protests into bloody protests. As a result, approximately four students were killed and seventy-five students were seriously injured. This was the prelude of cruel, bloody, and serious protests in Thailand.
It is important to know that long corruption of Thai government caused not only protests but also deaths of protesters. It still continues and fights over its wrong sides. People wanted fair life and fair rights, and this is the reason why people came to streets and began to protest.
